What is the Cannes Film Festival?
The Festival de Cannes, the Cannes Film Festival in English, is the international film festival held every May at the Palais des Festivals on the Croisette. Its 80th edition runs from 11 to 22 May 2027: twelve days of Official Selection screenings, the Competition for the Palme d'or, red-carpet premieres on the 24 steps of the Palais, press conferences and photocalls. According to the organiser, more than 35,000 professionals and festival-goers attend each year. The Marché du Film, the industry's market, runs alongside it inside the Palais and on the beaches.
For Cannes it is the fortnight when demand for accommodation peaks. The residence applies a minimum stay of 3 nights on these dates and houses the people who work the festival as much as those who watch it: production companies and distributors, agencies, technical crews, journalists and festival-goers. The 79th edition, in 2026, had a jury chaired by Park Chan-wook and gave its Palme d'or to Fjord by Cristian Mungiu.

Production quoteWho comes to the Festival, and how long do they stay?
The festival has several publics and they do not keep the same hours. Production companies, sales agents and distributors work the Marché du Film from the first Tuesday: screenings, stands and meetings from nine in the morning, parties until late; many stay the full twelve days, others cover the market's busiest first week. Agencies, brands and technical crews arrive before the opening to build sets, terraces and pop-up venues, and leave when the last party is struck. Journalists and photographers follow the red steps and the press conferences for the whole fortnight. Festival-goers with an accreditation or an invitation come for a few days at a time.
The result is a town where a two-night stay hardly exists in May. The residence applies a minimum stay of 3 nights on the festival dates; most guests stay a week or the full fortnight, and the larger apartments, where a crew or a production office can live and work together, are reserved months in advance. The pools and the poolside terrace are open in May, which makes the residence a place to breathe between two screenings.
The city
What is Cannes like during the Film Festival?
For twelve days in May, Cannes becomes the film capital of the world. The Croisette is lined with the barriers of the red carpet, beach clubs and hotel terraces are turned into pavilions and party venues, the Palais des Festivals at the western end of the promenade is ringed by accreditation zones, and the streets of the Suquet and the rue d'Antibes are full from breakfast to two in the morning. The seafront road is partly closed, taxis are scarce when the evening screenings let out, and the restaurants are booked long before the first film.
Résidence La Palme d'Azur is at the other end of the bay, in Cannes La Bocca: 3 km west of the Palais, 100 m from a beach that the festival leaves alone. In May the two outdoor pools, the sunbeds and the Café Bleu, the restaurant and bar on the poolside terrace, are open; shops and a supermarket are 300 m away, and the bus along the shore takes you to the Palais in about 10 minutes. You sleep away from the crowd and rejoin it when you choose.

Three things to organise before the Festival
Decide how long you really need. The Marché du Film and the press are at full stretch in the first week; the second belongs to the Competition and the closing ceremony. Book the nights you need above the 3-night minimum and book them generously now: adding a night in May is far easier in the winter than in April.
Choose how you will move. The seafront is partly closed and taxis vanish after the evening screenings. From La Bocca the bus runs along the shore to the Palais in about 10 minutes; a car takes 5 when the road is open and stays in our underground car park the rest of the time.
Give the crew a base. Sets, terraces and pop-up venues are built at dawn and struck at night. A duplex with two bathrooms, a kitchen for a six o'clock coffee and an entry code that works at three in the morning houses a technical team better than rooms on three floors of a hotel.

Bedroom on one side, living room on the other: one edits pictures or phones Los Angeles, the other sleeps before an early screening. With the sea in front of it, the one-bedroom with sea view is our most requested type in May.
A production office, a technical crew, an agency team
In a two-bedroom apartment or a duplex, everyone gets a door to close, the crew shares one table to plan the next day's call sheet, the duplexes add a second bathroom for early calls, and the whole apartment goes on one invoice to the production.

Flying in for the festival
What should a producer or a crew from abroad expect on arrival?
The festival brings film people from every continent to a town that is hard to cross at the end of a screening. Most of our May guests land at Nice airport, often late; the residence is arranged so that nothing depends on office hours, the paperwork suits a production accountant, and someone answers the phone in English.
Keys from a locker, whatever time the flight lands
Your personal code arrives before the trip and opens the locker at the entrance where the keys are kept; the earliest arrival is 5 pm and there is no latest one. A premiere that runs late changes nothing.
Nice airport in about 25 minutes
Nice airport is 30 km away. Taxi: about 25 minutes to the door. Airport coach: about 45 minutes to Cannes station. Shuttle then train: about 70 minutes. Apartments are vacated by 10 am, later on request when the next guest allows it.
An invoice for the production
Whether you book online or accept a quote, the invoice is made out to the production company, distributor or agency you name, French VAT on a separate line, and e-mailed once the stay is over; a crew in several apartments can have one document per apartment or one for all.
Cards from any country

Is an apartment a good idea for the Film Festival, or should you stay on the Croisette?
During the festival a room on the Croisette puts you at the foot of the red steps, in the middle of the crowd, the barriers and the noise, for twelve days. An apartment 3 km along the coast puts you somewhere else: a living room where a production office sets up its laptops, a kitchen for breakfast at six before the first market screening, bedrooms with doors for a crew that works in shifts, and a terrace facing the sea when the last party ends.
The apartment goes on one invoice, you decide the length of stay above the 3 nights required, and a code that works at three in the morning suits a flight from Los Angeles or Seoul as much as a closing-night party. Guests who stay through the weekend after the closing ceremony get the pools and the beach back to themselves when the town empties.

Before you book for the Cannes Film Festival
When should you book accommodation for the Cannes Film Festival 2027?
As soon as your participation is likely, and in any case before the end of the year: the festival is the fortnight when Cannes is fullest, and the same May dates are taken every year by productions, distributors and agencies that return. The apartments a crew can live in, the two-bedroom types and the duplexes, disappear first, followed by the sea-view one-bedrooms. Are the pools and the Café Bleu open during the Festival?
Yes. The residence's season runs from 1 April to 31 October, so during the festival the two open-air pools, the sunbeds beside them and the Café Bleu, the restaurant-bar whose terrace runs along the pool, are open every day. One of the pools is a lagoon with a beach-style entry and a gradual depth, there is a water slide, and both pools are surrounded by the gardens. The Café Bleu serves on the terrace by the pool, not on the beach: a coffee before the bus to the Palais, a late lunch between two screenings, a drink when you come back before the evening premiere. The beach is 100 m from the door, the gardens and sea-view terraces are open all year, and the underground car park keeps the crew's cars off a seafront that is partly closed for the fortnight.
Can you come for one week only, and which week should it be?
Yes: the minimum stay is 3 nights, and a week is the most common booking after the full fortnight. Which week depends on what you do. The Marché du Film and most of its screenings run mainly in the first week, from the opening on 11 May, so buyers, sales agents and journalists tend to arrive on the Monday and leave the following weekend. The second week carries the end of the Competition, the awards and the closing ceremony on 22 May, and suits producers and guests who follow the films rather than the market. Crews that build and strike a venue are often there for both.
