What is MIDEM?

MIDEM, the international music industry gathering, presents itself as the global music industry hub in Cannes: the organiser says the 2027 edition brings music leaders, artists, labels, producers, startups and professionals together in Cannes to shape the future of the industry. It takes place from 19 to 21 January 2027 in the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès on the Croisette, Cannes. The programme announced on the official site combines a speakers line-up, a Startup Village with a Start-up Challenge, the MIDEM Awards, partner events and evening concerts.

For the town it is one of the first professional events of the year: Cannes is quiet in January, availability is more flexible than in spring or autumn, and we ask for 2 nights at least on these dates. The pools and the poolside restaurant are closed for the winter. MIDEM 2028 is expected in January 2028; its dates will be shown here once the organiser publishes them.

MIDEM opens the Cannes calendar every January. As soon as the 2028 dates are published, this card will carry a pre-filled link; meanwhile the engine works with whatever dates you type, and a label or a publisher can lock in several apartments by asking for a quote.

Who comes to MIDEM, and how long do they stay?

MIDEM is a meeting place rather than a trade fair with a stand on every corner. Labels and publishers send small teams, two to four people, who fill three days with catalogue talks, licensing conversations and partner meetings. Artists and their managers come for a showcase, a panel or the awards, sometimes with a musician or two in tow. Startups arrive with a pitch for the Start-up Challenge, and platforms, distributors, agents and media come to meet all of the above in a single place.

The pre-filled stay is three nights, from the Monday evening to the Thursday, and the minimum stay on these dates is 2 nights. In January the town is calm and availability is wider than at any other Cannes congress; the trade-off is that the residence's summer services are closed, and what remains is exactly what a working musician or an A&R manager needs: a quiet apartment, a kitchen, and the sea in front of the window.

What is Cannes like in January, during MIDEM?

January is the quietest month on the Riviera. The Croisette belongs to the people who live here, the winter light is clear over the bay, and the Palais, where the promenade meets the Old Port, hosts the music business for three days while the rest of the town gets on with its winter. Restaurants around the port and in the old town are open and easy to book, unlike in May or June, and taxis answer the phone.

Our residence is 3 km west of the Palais in Cannes La Bocca, the seafront district on the far side of the bay. Pools, loungers and the poolside bar-restaurant are winter-closed in January (their season is April to end of October). What January leaves you is a warm apartment with a terrace on the sea, a supermarket and shops 300 m up the road, a beach 100 m away for an early walk, and Cannes La Bocca station 500 m on foot, with trains to Nice.

  • Getting to the Palais3 km, a 5-minute drive or some 10 minutes on bus lines 1 and 2; the stop is two minutes from the door
  • Sea and Croisette100 m to the beach on foot, 3.5 km to La Croisette, 3.2 km to the Old Port
  • Coastal railwayCannes La Bocca station, 500 m away, has trains to Antibes and Nice; Cannes Centre, 2.2 km further, is a short walk from the Palais
  • AirportNice Côte d'Azur is 30 km away; taxi about 25 minutes, airport coach to Cannes station about 45, shuttle and train about 70
  • ParkingSecure underground spaces under the residence, 1.85 m clearance, booked together with the stay; a taller van of instruments stays outside
  • January on siteGardens, terraces, the sea in front; pools and the poolside bar-restaurant are shut until April (season April to end of October)

Three practical tips for MIDEM week in Cannes

Think in showcase slots. A MIDEM day runs from morning panels to late concerts. Choose accommodation you can leave at a fixed hour without queueing at a desk and return to after midnight without waking a soul: an apartment with its own door code manages that, and its kitchen feeds a band at one in the morning.

Use the low season. January is the one Cannes congress where a two-bedroom apartment or a duplex is usually still free a few weeks out. Book early all the same if you need several apartments side by side, or the Sunday night for a rehearsal day.

Come by train if you land in Nice. Cannes La Bocca station is 500 m from the residence, on the coastal line; from the airport, the shuttle and train take about 70 minutes, the taxi about 25. Bring a coat for the evening: the sea breeze in January is real.

Which apartment for an artist, a label team or a startup at MIDEM?

Seven apartment types, most of them looking at the sea, 100 m from the beach. Every one has a kitchen, a bathroom of its own and a balcony or terrace; surfaces and capacities are those of our listings, and each name below leads to the apartment's page, photographs and January availability.

How does an international delegate get from Nice airport to the residence in January?

MIDEM brings the music business from every continent, and January flights into Nice are less crowded than in summer. Here is how the arrival works when there is no desk to check in at, and how the paperwork suits a label's accounts department.

Keys in a locker, at any hour

A personal code reaches you ahead of the trip and unlocks the key locker by the entrance. Arrivals begin at 5 pm with no cut-off at night, so a late showcase or a delayed connection is not a problem.

Train or taxi from Nice airport

30 km separate the airport from the residence: a taxi needs some 25 minutes, the airport coach about 45 to Cannes station, and the shuttle-plus-train option around 70 to Cannes La Bocca station, 500 m from the door. Departure is before 10 am.

An invoice for the label or the publisher

The invoice is issued to the company you name at booking, with French VAT itemised, and e-mailed after the stay; a delegation can have one document per apartment or one for the group.

Cards from anywhere

You pay by card online, through your bank's own authentication, and a quote is settled in the same way; there is no cash to hand over on arrival and no deposit to leave for the keys.

A phone line in English and French

Rather than a desk, a number: +33 4 89 41 29 30, where the team picks up calls and messages in English and French, from a lost entry code to a parking space or a date change during MIDEM.

A quiet place to work, and guest Wi-Fi

A table and a kitchen in every apartment. Guest Wi-Fi is available as paid passes, hourly to monthly, with a business plan on top; for a video call with head office, keep mobile data in reserve.

Hotel room or apartment

Why would a label or an artist choose an apartment for MIDEM rather than a hotel room?

Balcony with palm trees and sea view of a two-bedroom apartment, a quiet break between MIDEM meetings in January

The case for an apartment in January is not about rates. It is about the way a music week works: a living room where three people can listen to a mix at a proper volume, a kitchen for a late supper after a showcase, bedrooms with doors when one of you has an early panel, and a terrace facing the sea when the calls to another time zone are done.

For a label team the maths is simple: one two-bedroom apartment or a duplex instead of three or four rooms, one invoice, one entry code, and the evening debrief around a table with the day's contacts laid out. The minimum stay is 2 nights; the pre-filled link proposes 3, and January leaves room to extend.

Labels, publishers and delegations

How does a label, a publisher or a startup book for a whole team?

A team of seven or fewer books one apartment online, MIDEM dates already in place. From eight upwards, the group configurator gathers several apartments into one basket, shows what is free on the January nights and prices it; for larger delegations, staggered arrivals, invoices split by company or a van of instruments to park, a quote request is answered within 48 working hours.

What a delegation booking covers

  • Every apartment under one roof, each with a round-the-clock code of its own
  • A named contact in English or French, from the first message until the last departure
  • Company invoicing with French VAT set out, one document per apartment or one for all
  • Underground parking reserved at the same time, 1.85 m clearance
Questions from MIDEM delegates

Before you book for MIDEM Cannes

When should you book accommodation for MIDEM 2027?

Once your badge or your showcase slot is confirmed, which for most labels and artists happens in the autumn, and ideally before the end-of-year break. January is the low season in Cannes, so MIDEM is more forgiving than the spring and autumn congresses: a one-bedroom apartment can often be found a few weeks out. The exceptions are the apartments a team wants, two bedrooms or a duplex, and any request for several apartments side by side; those go to the delegations that book first. The pre-filled link covers 2027-01-18 to 2027-01-21; if you need the Sunday for a rehearsal or the Friday morning for a late flight, the five-night link takes both. The cancellation terms of each rate appear in the booking engine before you pay. A quote request lets a label reserve its apartments for the following January before they go back on sale.

What is closed at the residence in January, and what stays open?

Both outdoor pools, the loungers around them and the bar-restaurant on the pool terrace shut at the end of October and reopen in April, so during MIDEM they are closed, and we would rather write it here than have you find out on arrival. Everything else runs as in summer: apartments and kitchens, terraces and sea view, gardens, underground car park, round-the-clock entry by code, the phone line. For meals there is a supermarket 300 m up the road, and the restaurants of the port and the centre are a bus ride along the shore, the same trip as the Palais. Anyone who wants the pools should look at the congresses from April onwards, Cannes Lions in June above all; for MIDEM the reward is a winter sunrise over the bay from a quiet terrace, and January in Cannes has plenty of them.

Can an artist or a small label book just two nights?

Yes. The minimum stay during MIDEM is 2 nights, so arriving on 19 January, the opening day, and leaving on 21 January, the closing day, is accepted: the two-night link opens the engine on exactly those dates. In practice most participants prefer the Monday evening, because the first panels and meetings start early on the Tuesday and a train from Nice after a long flight is not the moment to discover the town. A solo artist or a manager fits in a studio or a one-bedroom apartment; a band of four or five with instruments is better off in a two-bedroom apartment or a duplex, with room for the cases and a quiet run-through. Two nights are also enough for a startup founder pitching at the Start-up Challenge and leaving once the results are known. Whatever the length, the stay is invoiced to the company or the artist's structure named at booking.

Sources. Everything said here about the event's dates, venue, audience and programme was read on midem.com on 2 September 2026, a page that gives no attendance figure, which is why none appears above; the 2028 dates remain the organiser's to announce. Distances and travel times, from OpenStreetMap and the transport operators, are approximate. Winter closure of the pools and restaurant, minimum stays and arrival hours reflect the residence's conditions on the dates concerned and can change. More practical details and access.
